Brief Program Description
This short-term program aims to develop the right skills for family members and care providers of
the elderly. The instructional courses were developed to educate, prepare, and train learners to be a
valuable support to older adults and their families in home and community settings. Learners will have
extensive knowledge in the characteristics and the needs of the older individuals in family and
institutional settings. They will also be trained on effectively working and communicating with the
family so they can provide the necessary support to the elderly, particularly those with dementia and
mental health challenges. Career Occupation Elder Companion, Senior Care Assistant (Non-regulated),
Family Caregiver, Home Support Aide (Non-clinical), Live-in Caregiver – Seniors
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age prior to start of the study period, or
must have graduated from grade 12 (or equivalent), AND
• Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency results with minimum score of CLB
4 in all 4 abilities – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Combined delivery (both in-class and distance): Instruction is provided through a combination of in-class
and distance delivery, both synchronous and asynchronous.
