Brief Program Description
This instructional program aims to enhance the right skills for child care providers who will work with
infants/children of various physical and emotional abilities and their families. The courses were developed
to educate, prepare, and train learners to be a valuable help to the children’s family, especially the mothers,
so they can intentionally focus on their own well-being and their family’s needs. The learners will gain
extensive knowledge on taking care of infants, children, and mothers. They will also be prepared on
effectively working and communicating with family members and the community. Finally, learners will be
trained on acquiring the basic requirements in working in a Canadian environment.

Admission Requirements
1. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age prior to start of the study period, or must have graduated
from grade 12 (or equivalent), AND
2. Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency results with minimum score of CLB
4 in all 4 abilities – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
1. Participate in less routine social conversations for many everyday purposes like offering assistance,
expressing opinions, and responding to different emotions of infants, children, and their family;
2. Follow moderately complex directions and instructions for technical or non-technical tasks;
3. Engage in short group interactions about personal experiences, general knowledge, or familiar
work-related topics;
4. Identify the basic concepts of growth and development;
5. Differentiate amongst various personal, social, emotional, and some physical support provided to
infants, children and their families;
6. Demonstrate problem-solving skills in providing care and assistance that promotes the physical,
psychological, social, cognitive and spiritual well-being of infants and children;
7. Describe the role in home management for child care providers.
8. Gain knowledge on providing specialized assistance to infants and children with physical and
mental challenges;
9. Understand the fundamental skills required in supporting infants and children with specialized
needs in different community settings;
10. Develop effective communication techniques needed in collaborating with the family, community
and health care providers.
11. Prepare, acquire, and complete the necessary documents and pre-requisites for obtaining a
caregiving job.

and distance delivery, both synchronous and asynchronous.
