Program Overview :
This program is designed to educate learners to be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Learners will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst traveling in an area where the language is spoken. They will be also able to produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Furthermore, they will be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. Upon successful completion, learners should be able to achieve CLB level 6 or IELTS 5.5

Admission Requirements:
- Applicants must provide proof of meeting English language competency requirements. (Please refer to the language proficiency policy.)
Language Competency Requirement
(Evidence of one of the following test scores)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic or General -- test must be within the last two years: Overall score of 5
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): test must be within the last two years, IBT only -- Overall score of 45
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP - General): test within the last two years, Listening 5, Speaking 5, Reading 5 and Writing 5
- Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLB PT): test must be within the last year: Listening 5, Speaking 5, Reading 5 and Writing 5 (Note: a CLB Report Card from a LINC Program may also be accepted.)
- Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN): test within the last two years, Listening 5, Speaking 5, Reading 5, and Writing 5
- Gateway College ESL Placement Test Level 5
- ‘Integrated Skills English Language – Lower-Intermediate’ course (Gateway College): 60% or above
